Time Lapse Photography: Observing change

Slowing things down and focusing on change is the main idea in this week's at-home-learning activity. Time lapse photography is the art of taking a series of photos of the same thing, from the same place, over time to document change. It could be over seconds, watching a droplet of water fall, or months watching plants in the garden grow. It could also be over weeks, watching your hair grow. Here is a local example of photos taken by a woman in Vermont over the year to show the changing of the seasons.

Your challenge: Take a photo every minute for 10 minutes, every hour for a couple of hours or every day of the week of the same thing, from the same place. *Make sure to ask for permission to use your parents camera or phone to take the photos.* It could be the same leaf on a tree, your garden, your dinner being eaten, the mountains, a fort as you build it. The time frame you choose (every minute, hour or day) has to match the speed of what you are photographing changes. Helpful tip: keep all my photos in one folder so they are easy to see all together in one place .

Please share your photos by emailing them to me at harmony.roll@mmuusd.org.

Here are some photos I've taken of Camel's Hump from the same place over the past 2 years.
